Year of Astronomy
Year of Astronomy is an integral part of my thesis—The Papercy Project.

Technology is cyclical. Old processes can become new again. As creators, we do not have to be so caught up in the blind-chase for the latest technologies. Any technique that can be employed to enhance an end-product should be harnessed. It is more important to develop a sensitivity towards the design medium.

The aim was to make the design outcome more interesting and less "flat" by augmenting digital prints (laser jet and deskjet) with handicraft methods (letterpress, silkscreen, varnish, die-cut, emboss, etc.) and different textures of paper with overlays (which can be switched around for different compositions). The calendar portion is also perforated and can be torn away for the designs to be kept as posters.

It would have been rather cliche to base the designs on horoscopes, because the theme of the calendar is Astronomy after all. Instead, I created a series of general designs based on the theme. Similarly, a calendar was chosen because it gives more context as a functional design outcome rather than just a poster series. All these steps were taken in an effort to enhance the graphic design outcome for both creatives and end-users alike.
